"For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. " John 5:20-21 NASB Lately, I have been camping around the scriptures about the resurrection from the dead and the second death. But I like to focus on the fact, that Jesus raised the dead, because God raised the dead. We are to raise the dead, because He commissioned us when He said go preach the good news, heal the sick, cleanse the lepers and raise the dead. Freely you have received, freely give. (see Matthew 10:8-9) I have been hearing about many incidences, where people have been raised from the dead, but I have yet to see one right before my eyes...but guess what? I want to and I like to see my Father glorified through it. So far, I have witnessed many healing, and even creative miracles, as well as demons being cast out, mighty release of infirmities and people lead to the Lord as Jesus was preached. In Hebrews 6, Paul speaks about leaving the elementary teaching of Christ, in order to go on to maturity. One of the elementary teaching mentioned is the resurrection of the dead. (see Hebrews 6:1-2). How about this: "Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised: and coming out of their graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many." Matthew 27:51-53 Can you imagine living in the city of Jerusalem, and someone coming to your door knocking, and when you open up, you see your great-uncle who has been dead for awhile? He came out of his grave after Jesus' resurrection and went to appear to many! This is food for thought! If Jesus was never raised from the dead we are in trouble! In Acts 1:8 it states that we receive power to be His witnesses.... What are we witnessing? Jesus been raised from the dead, His resurrection. The Apostles testified and witnessed the resurrection of Jesus. Peter testified in Acts 4:10 "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole." "Therefore, being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses..." Acts 2:30-32 "..and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnessed." Acts 3:15 "And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, And great grace was upon them all."
